Our condolences on your loss

Take the time you need. When the family is ready, the four steps below help you manage the late person's estate in an orderly way — one step at a time. All of it is free and can be done without signing up.

Phase 1 · The First Week After Death

Basic matters

  • Obtain confirmation of death from the hospital or a medical practitioner.
  • Register the death at JPN and obtain the death certificate. The most fundamental document; almost every subsequent matter requires it. Make several certified copies.
  • Settle the funeral arrangements and keep all funeral expense receipts. These expenses are paid first from the estate.
  • Notify the deceased's employer (final salary, employment benefits, GCR for civil servants).

Four steps

What needs to be done, in order

You don't need to finish everything at once. Start with the first step.

  1. Any time

    Calculate each heir's share Free

Find out who the heirs are and how much each one receives. Guided mode asks one question at a time; the estate value can be filled in later. If an heir died after the deceased, calculate munasakhat too (2 layers, free).

  2. From the first week until done

    Follow the 7-phase checklist Free

A seven-phase guide for heirs to administer an estate in an orderly way. Tick each completed step — progress is saved in your browser, without logging in.

  3. Before the estate is distributed

    Calculate costs before faraid Free

Order of applying the estate: (1) funeral management expenses, (2) the deceased's debts, (3) bequests up to 1/3, (4) faraid to the heirs. The balance after costs and debts goes straight to the faraid calculator.

  4. When you need it

Get help — or manage it yourself

Most families can start on their own. If your case is complicated, or you want support throughout the process, there are two options.

Important in the first week

Things NOT to do

  • Do not withdraw money from the deceased's accounts even if you know the PIN. The accounts will or should be frozen; unauthorised withdrawals can become a legal and trust issue.
  • Do not distribute, sell or divide any property based on your own understanding.
  • Do not throw away the deceased's documents, bills or letters. They are clues to assets and debts.
